Daily Slices: 9/25/06

Our condolenses go out to the friends and family, and those effected by the death of Mingma Norbu Sherpa, who died this past weekend. My soon-to-be sister-in-law, Tatiana, just started working with Mingma and really thought highly of him. Please keep this in your prayers. Read More. . .

I read this little slice on relevantmagazine.com today -
Hip-hop legend Kurtis Blow, who is now a television pastor, has partnered with Holy Hip-Hop Music to form Music Ministry Recordings. According to Blow, the label (which is under the EMI Gospel umbrella) aims to reach “young people out here who love God but do not like to go to church, only Hip-Hop can bring them back to the church”
I had a thought as I read that – “Isn’t the church the body of Christ? So, if people do not like to ‘go to church’ what does that say about their view and feelings for Christ? ” I understand that what is referred to here is more the technical aspect of church, such as the music sung or the style of preaching, etc. But, you know what, the fact cannot be denied that if you do not “like church” or do not like to go to church, that you have a very immature view of what Christ created the church to be. I feel strongly that believers should be tied into a local church body and the bible is pretty clear on that. Church has nothing to do with production, lights, sound quality, etc. It has everything to do with worshipping God. That isn’t to say the aforementioned things are wrong, absolutly not, but when they are the focus for us to say this church is good, this church is bad. . . our views are not inline with the bible. Church SHOULD BE the manifestation of God’s love, through people, to the world; loving each other, serving each other and the world, as Christ did, and worship God. In doing that, if our production is “good” compared to the world then fine, but it should not be the focus. . . Ok, i gotta stop b/c i could go on and on. Sorry, thats a bit more than a slice. . .

In sports news, the Philadelphia Eagles, showed that last week was mostly a fluke, in a seemly easy win against the 49′ers on Sunday. Granted, they should have won this one, but after last weeks embarassing loss, they needed a win to show they are really a team to contend with. More on that. . .

Former president Bill Clinton let loose on Fox News anchor Chris Wallace this weekend in a televised interview. “You got that little smirk on your face, and you think you’re so clever,” he told Wallace at one point after he was asked about his response to the terrorism threat. You can

See Mommy Run…

Well, since last sunday when Logan learned how to crawl, we have been kept on our toes… he has been getting faster and faster and more and more mischievous…

Oh the joy of running after a 6 month old! All week I have been catching him right before he puts something he found on the floor in his mouth, or cleaning up a soaked floor due to him turning over the dogs water (oh how fun it is to watch mommy run!). He seems to want everything the dog has- her food, her water, her chewy bone, her rubber chewy, he will actually take it away from her and then begin to suck on it (eeww)! Luckily she doesn’t seem to mind, but I think this is a bad sign, I can see it now ~ the fights I will have to break up because he took someone else’s toy. Since he learned to crawl, he has been pulling himself up on anything he can get his hands on, today he pulled himself up on the couch and then let go- he stood for a second and then fell flat on his face (don’t worry he wasn’t hurt at all)- I guess he didn’t realize that he needs to hold on… he’ll learn fast…

Although, it is so much fun to have a crawling baby, I think back to when he couldn’t move and I think “those were the days”! So much for relaxing and being able to leave him on the floor and walk out of the room and know he couldn’t get anywhere or hurt himself, instead I know the exact opposite, if I leave him alone in the room for 2 seconds he will be into the worst possible thing… I swear he does it to hear me squeak at him… he gets so angry when I won’t let him get to the dogs dish, or when I take away the itzy bitzy piece of napkin that was on the floor that I guess looked so yummy… I guess its time to “baby proof”!

He is now eating plenty of baby food, he LOVES bananas, apples and sweet potatoes, and really does not like carrots and squash… He is eating the fruit wheels and seems to really enjoy being able to feed him self.

I guess that is all we have to report this time around… we don’t have any new pictures of him crawling – sorry, but we will let you know when we do. Next time we see you don’t be offended if all you see of us is a crawling baby with me running after him…

To my son, for his “6 month birthday”. . .

Logan – I cannot believe how much I love being your daddy. No one really knows how their life will change when a child is brought into their lives, and I truly had no clue. But boy, am I glad the Lord has blessed us with you. I experience love in a completely different way than ever before. Your existence makes me want to be a much better man, to be a role model of the utmost quality for you. You make my heart burst with such joy at everything you do. Just seeing your face makes the worst of days, all completely better.

That is why i have put the following “slideshow” together. I love taking pictures of you – you are so easy to take pictures of!  So, i picked out the best ones and put them together. Yes, you are right, this isn’t really “for you”. . . it’s more “in honor of”.

Logan, I love you deeply and with all of my heart.
