Our Trip to San Antonio

Logan at the African Safari
As most of you know we took a trip down to San Antonio a few weeks ago to visit Chris’ grandmother. We left Wednesday March 28th and went down and spent the evening with Chris brother Rich, his wife Joanna and their kids, Elisabeth and Thomas. Logan loved them and their dog (snowball). And I think they loved him just as much.

The next day we got up early and got to the airport in plenty of time- we drugged Logan up with Benadryl hoping that he would sleep on the plane. We were lucky and when you have children they let you pre-board so we got good seats in the front and next to the window- It was a full flight however so we were squashed into two SMALL seats with Logan and a lap top on our laps- a nice lady sat next to Chris and although it was a bit uncomfortable we made it with out any freak outs. Logan slept for the first hour or so and then woke up and wanted to watch movies. It was a 4 hour flight so by the end we were loosing battery power and so we had to distract him by letting him look over the seats at the kids in front of us.

Grandma and George Webster, with Peggy and Logan with the girls, and then the boys =)
Once we arrived we got our rental car and went looking for something to eat- we were in Texas so we of course got Mexican food (Taco Bell =) we then spent the next few hours looking for the retirement home that Chris’ grandmother lives in (The Army Retirement Community (I think)- The ARC) we FINALLY found it and got to see Grandma Webster and George for a few minutes before we had to head back to the airport to pick up Mrs. LaGarde (Peggy- Chris’ mom). That night we ate in the dining room there at the ARC- every body that walked by stopped and looked at Logan and oohed and aahed over him and of course he was NOT being good- but he was being better than I thought he would after traveling all day with hardly any nap time. So that night we were so tired we didn’t do anything and we went to bed early, Nick and Tatiana (chris’ brother and his fiance) arrived late that night after we went to bed.

The next day we got up leisurely and went to lunch in the dining room again. They had a buffet lunch and it was so good we all stuffed our selves. Tatiana’s brother who is in the Army down there drove down to see Tatiana and so we visited with them. Chris Logan and I decided to go for a swim in the indoor pool we thought it might make Logan more sleepy before he took his nap- we got in the pool- it felt like a bath tub it was so warm, and we got in their hot tub, Logan took a nice long nap after that, so it worked. While Logan slept Chris and I went to the San Antonio River walk with Tatiana, her brother and Nick. we walked for a while and enjoyed the scenery and then we ate at Landry’s Seafood House- I am such a party pooper and I don’t like sea food so Chris and I had a chicken parmesan platter- it was the best I have ever eaten- we then went back to the ARC to rescue poor Peggy who was watching Logan for us.

The next day was finally nice it had rained the last two days and finally it looked like a nice day so we decided we would do something out and about. We decided on a drive thru African Safari- (The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch- African Safari, Texas Style) we had a BLAST!!! Nick, Tatiana, Chris, Logan and I were the only ones who went, and so Logan would enjoy it more I let him sit on my lap as we drove thru. (Don’t worry we barely hit 10 mph) The first animal you see when you drive in are these giraffe’s they are in really high pens but you could see them perfectly and they had a baby and it was still WAY taller than us… AMAZING- we decided to do the petting zoo part first and so we saw fun stuff- two different kinds of Lemurs (one had a tiny little baby- it was so cute- we didn’t pet them) and we got to pet goats… they were stinky, and the one was trying to eat Logan’s leash (yes, I got him a leash, he is getting so independent I have to be able to keep him close some how) anyway after that we went into the “Safari” the first animal you get to is the Ostrich – what an ugly animal- Nick was brave enough to let it eat out of his hand, but I wasn’t and luckily I put my window up before he got to me, and he was so mad he started biting at me thru the window- it scared the crap out of me I got a good picture though…. We saw tons of animals and although they warn you not to feed the animals out of your hand they are all so gentile that we just did it anyway. Logan got to pet a zebra, and he LOVED all the animals coming up to the car and so close to him…

That night we went out to eat at a Bar-B-Q place- Oh my goodness was that good- we had a great time we LOVED the food and fellowship!

Logan sitting in a field of flowers on the ARC base- and then a family picture while out at the BBQ place…
The next day we had to pack and leave, but first of course they had to feed us! The Dining room has brunch on Sundays and WOW was it good- the food there was so delicious, I am sure we all came back a few pounds heavier, and if you know me and Chris you know we don’t need more pudge =) we then took our time packing and took time to visit and say our good byes- We had such a good time visiting with Grandma Margaret and George that I think we need to do it again really soon!

Peggy and Grandma Webster- aren’t they both beautiful!
Logan had so much fun- he was the talk of the town everyone knew who we were- and EVERYONE LOVED Logan- I swear it took us ten times longer to get anywhere because everywhere we went we ran into all of these men and women who wanted to talk about Logan and OOH and AAH over him- it was so funny! Logan had a great time playing with Grandma Margaret’s wheel chair he would balance his plastic balls on her wheel chair and then knock them off- he even took rides on her wheel chair! LUCKY BOY!

Thank you so much Grandma Margaret and George for having us, for all the wonderful meals, for the lovely apartment and for so much fun! We will have to come visit again soon! Hugs and Kisses from your grandchildren in PA!
