There is no denying that Tuesday was an historic day - a day when America, in a VERY close election, chose a man of color to be president, for the first time in history. There are few people of color that have risen to high political offices on a local level, much less, debatably, the most powerful elected position in all the world. Whether you believe that American voted in this man simply because he was a man of color or, despite it - the fact that he has accomplished this, is truly really amazing.
It should come as no surprise that neither of us voted for the president elect because of some very fundamental reasons and differences. None of which, by the way, had to do with race. We wish we could say that we were in favor of this man and that we could share the joy, but we have some major reservations and concerns about this man being president.
Please don’t get us wrong - we don’t think that the country is ruined because he is now going to be our president. God did foresee this and has allowed it - for good or bad- and this country will stand or fall, all on God’s grace - not because one man holds an office and what his morals or lack-there-of are.
But, as April and I were talking tonight on our date night tonight, one of the major issues that we have with this man is his extreme stance on Abortion. In fact, this whole political season, has really caused April and I to think and discuss many views and ideas from a political stand point, and has challenged us tremendously with how our Christ centered faith should affect how we vote and who we support.
I do have to say this at this point - I have had it said to me in the past several months that Religion and Politics should be two separate thought processes and they shouldn’t mix. I whole-heartedly disagree. Your faith should shape your world view and pre-suppositions and the very way you live your life -character, morals and all. And that should shape who and what you support - politically, monetarily, and otherwise.
So back to the abortion issue - what we can’t understand is how - as people who follow Jesus Christ and his teachings - one can support someone who is so blatantly ok with infanticide, when, it goes so very against the faith you hold so dear. I don’t know if you know this but, infants, in the womb and I believe for a period of time after they are born, are many many times more sensitive to stimuli. Basically, their ability to feel pain is much more magnified than ours. So, when they are aborted, or partially born and have their skulls stabbed open and their brains sucked out - it is more painful than anyone can imagine. They have no one to fight for them, and it simply is murder. And our faith is very clear about murder - I believe the 5th or 6th commandment says that you should not murder. I can’t imagine how God sees a country that allows murder in such a fashion, especially when it says in Matthew 18:6 that it would be better to have a millstone hung around your neck than harm or offend a “little one”, referring to children. . . . Anyway. . .
Don’t get me wrong on this one either- we are not one issue voters - there are plenty of other issues that we felt were completely not inline with our faith and world view. We just can’t seem to connect the two things - Following Jesus Christ and supporting someone who extremely supports infanticide. We seriously welcome comments from those who do feel they follow Christ, to help us connect those two, or at least try.
I will wrap up this “Rant” by saying this - I have and always will “respect” the office of president for this country and as I said, I don’t believe our country is ruined just because of the new president elect. We are being driven to pray for this office though. The president elect and all government is now facing some major major issues. And for all black americans, I hope that this soon to be president can live up to the promises that he has made, and will do a good job. I also hope that in the coming times of hardship, that our government will remember and honor the constitution and the bill of rights that this country is founded on, and not steer our country towards a more socialistic and communistic society.
It is all in God’s hands, and in the end Love will win, and we will all have to give an account for the choices we make, and for our actions.
